Barter pet sitting means exchanging pet-care help through a reciprocal arrangement rather than treating every sitting as a separate cash booking. It can be a direct swap between two owners or a wider community exchange.
How does OkTreat use the idea?
OkTreat’s model is Help a Pet → Earn TreatCoins → Get Pet Care. Members contribute time through eligible pet care, earn community credits under the current rules, and use them for supported care when they need help.
Do you have to help the same person who helps you?
No. In OkTreat’s community model, you may help one member and later arrange care with another. This avoids needing both owners to be available for a direct return favour at the same time.
A simple example
You help care for a member’s pet during their absence. Later, another participating member helps with your pet. TreatCoins support the exchange across the community. This is an illustration of the model, not a promise of a specific credit amount or guaranteed sitter.
How does barter differ from paid pet sitting?
With paid sitting, an owner usually pays the agreed monetary price for care. In a reciprocal model, members contribute help and arrange supported care through community participation. Both require clear responsibilities, a suitable sitter and an agreed care plan.
What should owners and sitters check?
- Whether the sitter, pet and environment are compatible.
- Dates, feeding, exercise, supervision and handover arrangements.
- Emergency contacts and permission for agreed emergency action.
- Current credits, booking and cancellation requirements in the app.
Start with the meet-and-greet checklist. Credits and profiles do not guarantee a sitter’s suitability or local availability.
Are TreatCoins the same as cash or ALOHA?
TreatCoins support eligible activities in OkTreat’s pet-care system. They should not be treated as a promise of cash value or investment return. ALOHA is a separate digital utility project; do not assume the two are interchangeable.
